2010 Halibut Opener
We decided to leave Portland at 7:00am and drive to Garibaldi for a beautiful day
of Halibut catching.  We ran out to 750ft of water, which is 27.8 miles out of the Garibaldi harbor.  The crew got gear ready (crew Pedro, Eric, Larry), as we went to the first mark on my screen.  Down went the gear that Eric prepared.  We were using Wraptor cgbt 6'6" and 5'6" with Dolphin electric reels.  Larry Larue brought in the first fish.  As I watched Larry, I'm not sure who was winning the tug-of-war in this picture; but Larry did catch his first Halibut of his life, which ended up being 43 lbs.  Great job Larry.  Pedro had a hard start.  He missed his first three fish and then "Got Bent" on this fish pictured, finishing out of the penalty box by landing 2 more for the day.  It was a great ocean and a fun trip. Thanks guys.

We built a spinning rod out of a 6wgt fly rod for Pedro with titanium zurchronium guides, a cork handle and our new wooden reel seat. Needless to say it held up very well against this March steelhead for Pedro congrats.

2010 Hagg Lake opener
Me and Jacob were getting ready for our big adventure.  My 6 year old son was excited to go fishing he could hardly sleep the night before.  As we got to the lake, there were a lot of boats putting in and as I looked at the water, I was surprised how clear it was.  Last year at this time it was very muddy.  We got the boat launched and everybody loaded up.  Needless to say Hagg never lets me down.  We hooked our first one in 10 minutes and ended up going through 27 trout to get these.  What a great day.  So if you're looking for some nice trout, take your kids down and get them some of these.

Here are some tuna rods.

US NAVY ROD

It was a great honor to build a rod for the US NAVY, this rod will be showen at the Oregon NAVY Ball on Nov 6th,2009 go see at the ball.

Fishing with Looney Lures and Wraptor Rods.

As I drove to Washougal Washington to meet up with Larry Larue, owner of Looney Lures, I had no idea what to expect.  I got to the ramp a little early thinking I would wait for Larry, but when I pulled in I saw his truck in the lot and assumed he was at the dock; but Larry wasn't there.  He had put the boat in the night before, stayed the night on his boat and then came driving to the dock to pick up me and his friend Bob. Talk about going the extra mile to take a guy fishing.  I felt pretty exceptional, as I have become friends with Larry, I have learned of his graciousness and awareness of friendship.  I told him he didn't have to do all this for me and he replied "I wanted to make sure I get you a fish after the slaughter you took me on in the ocean this year".  I laughed and didn't think much about it, until these happened.

Needless to say, it was a great day.  We were using Wraptor xsa108 15 to 30, xsh96 15 to 30 and a rr1022m 10 to 25 and are pictured above.  We were also using Looney blues with purple and chartruece.  It really was a great combination.  Thanks Larry.  Can't wait to do it again.

Here are the winners of the Coos Bay tuna classic, Team King Fisher, as you can see they have done very well. As I get to know Mike Domeyer, I'm impressed with his good natured thought for a new tuna rod in the North West.  Wraptor will do whatever it can to help with this.  Mike has been working with Lamiglas and Wraptor to build a North West tuna rod that will be a winner for us all.  I have built several of the new rods and can't wait to see their new pictures for the photo contest. I will get the pictures of these  rods on here as soon as possible. Thanks to Domeyer and team King Fisher, great job. If you have any questions for Mike Domeyer about this new live bait rod call him at 503 799 1341 and he will be happy to talk to you about the new rod.

These are some of the newest live bait tuna rods we have done.

Previously, Wraptor really didn't offer graphite handles.  We were doing a few, but with all the new colors that are out now we have started offering them with great excitement.  Making a new adaptor so that the back of Alps reel seat will fit against the graphite with a seemless look, which makes for a more attractive handle.  There are more colors than pictured so just e-mail me if you are looking for a new handle.  It might be possible to replace your old handle with a graphite handle such as these. The new finger grip reel seats from Alps have a great feel and perform very well, they are a great addition to this type of handle. We have been doing very well with our new wooden reel seats, the two showen here are Maple Birds-eye on summer steelhead rods.

Well, it has been an exciting year for us and it's getting even better.  We have had products in Canada for about 2 years now and our first photo contest entry has arrived.  It's from Jennifer Douglas who purchased one of our rods for a Christmas gift. Thanks again Jennifer and good luck.

Thanks Oregon Tackle for your support of Wraptor Custom Rods. You can contact Doug Hays at www.oregontackle.com for any information you made need on their great products.  We would also like to thank Mr. Hays for his expert advice, and in giving my son a small rainbow spinner. The result was 23 trout which he landed on his new trout rod.    Oregon Tackle - thanks for your great products.

It was an honor that Wraptor was asked to build some rods for the Oregon Tuna Classic this year. We decided on a 7ft, 20 to 40
with titanium guides and gold zurchronium inserts, with a black and gold Alps reel seat. Also these rods will qualify for the Wraptor photo contest, good luck to the Tuna
Classic winners and we look forward to your future pictures. For more about the Tuna Classic contact Mark Lindquist at mark-lindquist@hotmail.com

As we went fishing for the opening day of trout, Jacob and I had just hooked several small trout when the Washington County Deputy pulled up and asked how we were doing.  The general banter about the fishing took place, but to my surprise this picture was taken and this e-mail was sent to me from NW Bill.

Special thanks to Coho Charters and Motel for their order of a BMB961e (pictured in pink) and the future business of refurbishing their rods.  Look for Coho Charters in Ilwaco Washington.  They are the oldest charter in the state.  Ask for Butch and he will get your spot for the 2009 season.

As you know, I have been wanting to make my own rod componets.  Well, here is our first spinning reel seats.  We are making them from woods all over the globe, such as Myrtle wood from Tazmania, maple birds eye and many others. You can now even pick out your own blank to have it carved from.

Wraptor would like to say thank you to Larry from Looney Lures for his order of four rods.  Larry is also going to be doing some testing of our new reel seats.  Larry is a custom lure designer.  Here is a couple of his Kwik Fish.  To contact Larry, E-mail me and I will get you the information. Thanks again Larry.

We have been working on gift rods for some companies, such as Floor Factor, and the Columbia River Fire Dept.  Wraptor has become an Heirloom for retirees as they leave their place of work.  Wraptor has stood up against the challenge of making a gift that will say thanks for all your years of hard work.  We have done three RainDancer Loomis fly rods for Columbia River (two shown here). We are glad to be there for those who have standed the test of time, like our rods will...

Wraptor goes to Joe's Salmon Lodge and Hakai Pass in British Columbia, Wraptor took xsa114, 15 to 30, and bxcf1022h, 12 to 25.  Amazingly, I caught this 38 lb halibut on a silver Fish Me bait and my xsa 15 to 30 while we were waiting for a tide change in the pass.  We just stopped to fish inside the pass on the way back from Spider Island for bottom fish and was lucky enough to hook this halibut that Pat Matthews gaffed for me.  The fishing was a little slow but the time we spent there was worth it.  Thanks Joes.  Here are the rest of the highlights.
